History
Trinity Lutheran Church was born on August 10, 1958 with the merger of St. Paul American Lutheran Church, which dated back to 1870, and St. Olaf Evangelical Lutheran Church, which was organized in 1937. The two groups met on the sidewalk in front of St. Paul church steps and merged into one group. Singing “A Mighty Fortress Is our God”, they entered the church carrying altar paraments, offering plates, and other useful tools of worship.
Trinity has also become the church home to many people whose churches have closed over the years, including St. John’s Lutheran in Lawler, Immanuel Lutheran in Ionia, and St. John’s Lutheran in Boyd.
An educational building and fellowship hall was dedicated in 1962, and in 2001, an addition to the church building provided new office space, a Fireside Room for meetings, an elevator for access to all levels, and new narthex gathering space.
Trinity Lutheran is a member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. The list of cooperative projects continued to expand, as does our mission to Share God’s Word – Show God’s Love – Shine God’s Light.
